St Mel's Parish was originally St Anthony's, Canterbury which was established in 1894. The Good Samaritan Sisters were in charge of the school until 1901, when they were replaced by the Sisters of St Joseph. The Sisters of St Joseph left the school in 1988 with the current Principal being the first lay principal at St Mel's. The school has been extensively renovated and refurbished.
