Thomas Mitchell Primary School opened in 1991, to service the newly developed area of Endeavour Hills, 7km east of Dandenong.  The school grew steadily to peak between the years 2000 and 2005 when enrolments rose to around 700.  Student numbers then fell in to 650 in 2006, reflecting a decline in enrolments in the local area.  Despite a DEECD predicted trend for numbers to continue falling Thomas Mitchell Primary School has maintained a high level of enrolment, and has in 2013 increased to an enrolment of above 750.  This is in contrast to the trend reflected in most Endeavour Hills schools at present, where enrolments continue to significantly decline.  The majority of the students are from the local area, however a significant number of students come from outside this area, mainly from the broader Endeavour Hills and Doveton communities.  There are currently 32 classes, with 5 Prep classes.  495 of our students come from non-English speaking backgrounds and many have at least one parent born overseas.  The community considers this to be of great benefit to students as it adds to the richness of the culture of the school.
