The Hills Sports High School provides a comprehensive secondary education for its students in Years 7-12, the majority of whom come from the local Seven Hills - Toongabbie area. In addition, the school contains a support unit comprising two Mild Intellectual (IM) classes and two Moderate Intellectual (IO) classes providing for students with an intellectual disability. The support unit is a state facility and a placement committee operating within the Parramatta district determines enrolments. The Hills Sports offers a Talented Sports Program (TSP) designed to provide students who excel in particular sports with elite coaching and an academic framework that enables them to reach both their academic and sporting goals. The Hills Sports prides itself in offering a quality education in a caring environment. This is achieved with the support of parents. For Year 7, the introduction to high school begins while students are still in Year 6. The primary-secondary transition process begins in June when Year 6 students have their first formal contact with the school. In November they attend an orientation day, which prepares them for secondary school. All Year 7 students are issued with a study journal designed to ease them into the habits required of independent learners. Class based morning teas are organised early in term one for the Year 7 parents and the P & C hosts a 'meet the teachers' BBQ for parents at their first meeting. Years 7 and 8 follow a fixed curriculum. Years 9 and 10 have a vertically semesterised elective structure, which maximises the available choice and allows for acceleration of learning for identified students. An extensive subject choice is available for students in Years 11 and 12. Senior students are supported by the Academic Review Panel, which assesses student progress after the half-year exam and organises a program of support for targeted students. Support may include guidance in study or attachment to a head teacher mentor to monitor progress.
