The Observatory Hill Environmental Education Centre is unique among the state's network of 22 environmental education centres, specialising in educational programs that focus on the urban environment. Being located on historic Observatory Hill, adjacent to Sydney's CBD, provides a wealth of opportunity for students and teachers to enhance their understanding of the fabric of the built environment coupled with a kaleidoscope of human interaction which creates a vibrant and diverse platform for learning. From the rich colonial heritage of the Rocks, to the cosmopolitan downtown precincts of the city centre, students in Kindergarten to year 12 have an opportunity to participate in one of the 18 fieldwork programs on offer at the centre. This setting further allows for a broader conceptualisation of environmental education by merging an understanding of interactions within the natural environment with those associated with the human overlay.
