About St Anne's Primary School Albury

Education Directory introduces St Anne's Primary School Albury in Albury, for all your education and learning needs.

Prior to the building of St. Anne’s School, the children attended classes at Sacred Heart School, which was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1936.  These classes were held in the Sacred Heart Hall on Wagga Road.

Building started in 1956, with the laying of the foundation stone at the present school site of Curlew Crescent and Lowry Street, North Albury. The school was erected by voluntary labour which reduced the construction cost of St. Anne’s School by two-thirds.

The school took two years to construct and was officially opened on 9th March, 1958 by the Most Reverend F. A. Henschke.  In his address to the crowd Bishop Henschke commended Father Bongiorno (Parish Priest), his Parish Assistant, Father O’Leary and their band of workers. At the time of the official opening of the school, there were 287 primary students enrolled.  In the next few years the school enrolment increased to 440 students.

In 1962 the courtyard was concreted. In 1963 the bell tower was built and in 1964 an additional classroom was added.  This again was built by voluntary labour.  In 1975, major renovations were commenced resulting in the present-day administration wing.

During 1999 – 2000 the old school was demolished and replaced by a new brick veneer building at a cost of $1.5 million with over $1 million being funded by the Commonwealth Government and a loan of $500 000 from the Wagga Diocese.  Bishop William Brennan blessed the new and renovated buildings on 24th November, 2000, and Mr Tim Fischer, Member for Farrer, opened them.

In 2008 the school celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Opening of St. Anne’s School.

Our new school hall, library and canteen were officially opened in 2011.  These new buildings were funded by the Federal Government’s ‘Building an Education Revolution’ program. Also, during this year solar panels were installed on the roof of the administration building, this was funded through the Federal Government’s ‘National Solar Schools Program’.

In 2011 our new basketball court was installed and a parent’s car-park was constructed on the Lowry Street side of our school.

An additional classroom and undercover area were built at the beginning of 2012.

With the exception of 1988, the Principals of St. Anne’s School have belonged to the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy. The first principal was Mother Basil who was replaced in 1961 by Sister Lucina.
